Out the rear window

We had to hurry home yesterday evening...storms with the possibility of golf ball sized hail was predicted for the county we were in.
We actually noticed the sky and started home before we heard the forecast, but once we heard it, we were a bit more serious about getting home.
We noticed this cloud start forming, but we were in too big of a hurry for me to stop and get a good photo of it...so I was trying to snap shots of it as it changed. We never did get any real bad weather, though we did have some storms after we got home.

We have been planning on getting a GPS for a while now....the past two or three times we have been out we have wished we had one for one reason or another. Last night we really needed one...we were in an area we had never been before, and even though I have an Indiana atlas, for the most part it gives county road numbers, but they have since been given names such as Arney Rd, and other names I don't remember how to spell.

Anyway, I ordered a GPS last night...next I need one of those things my brother talks about that gives the GPS coordinates of each picture taken. I started out with the intention of trying to retrace the roads we took on a drive this past winter but did not succeed.

  4. Rose: Those anvil shaped clouds are a great indicator that problems are on the way.

  5. Nice shots! We saw some very similar cloud formations on the golf course today - a storm was brewing here, too. So far, lots of thunder and lightning but not much rain or anything else.

Florida is the lightning capitol of the world, I've heard. A small area around Orlando recorded over 35,000 lightning strikes in a brief period of time last night!

  6. These are good pictures of the cloud, especially considering that you took them on the fly. I'm glad the bad weather missed you. I hope you'll like your GPS as much as we like ours.

  7. Hi Rose, George bought one of those photography GPS thingees like Neal has... He loves it.

It's too late now--but be sure and get a Garmin. We love ours --and they send updated maps ever so often. I'm sure there are other 'good' brands---but my friend had one which was terrible.... SO--like anything else, there are bad ones also.

Glad you made it home before the storm hit.... Glad also that you didn't get any bad weather.
    Hugs,
    Betsyc

  8. Skies like that are positively unnerving. I am very glad you got home safely before the storm hit. And Yay!! for getting a GPS. They are worth their weight in gold. I can't wait to upgrade to an iPhone. I'll be living on my GPS application.

  10. Wow Rose, beautiful sky pics. I like to be home when a storm is approaching. We have a GPS built in our van and love it. Jim also has a Garmin in his car. You are going to like it.

  11. I love the clouds! You must have a lot cleaner back windows than I do. We have a GPS and use it on trips all the time. Very handy! I like to think of it as a QSF...Quilt Store Finder :-) It is great to go to a strange city or state and tell it an address and have it direct you right there. Takes getting used to. Sometimes the "bossy lady" who is giving us directions doesn't understand when we decide to go a different way or change our mind! LOL!
