Seen in an antique shop...

I don't know why I have never made one a Dutch Girl quilt...I have always liked them.
Mary and I have been talking about making a bucket list of quilts we want to do...
I don't know if I will ever actually do it. I know I won't live near long enough to do all the quilts I want to do.

I am still working on my latest project. I have made 16 blocks and need to make 2o more. I have had a few days where I haven't touched it...some because I was busy and others because I wasn't in the mood. For the most part though I have worked some on it every day...sometimes not a lot, but others have been down there for hours. I have started cutting more strips...I stood down there for at least two hours cutting tonight and still have a long way to go.

I am wishing I had a couple more light fabrics in the Civil War reproductions, but will try to make do with what I have. I am a quilter, but am always amazed at how much fabric it takes to make a quilt.

The plans right now are that we are going to have visitors this weekend...a certain little munchkin is coming. Keep your fingers crossed that nothing happens. She has not been here since before Christmas. I have play dough waiting for her, and another little game.

She is still into 'pink' big time...and still plays dress up most days. Sarah got her the movies Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty...she watched Cinderella 3 times and Sleeping Beauty twice!

  1. Hi Rose, Oh, I hope your little visitor gets to come and see you! You all will have such fun.

Love the Dutch doll quilt. I have an 89 year old friend who has one her mom made her with dress scraps from her childhood!

Did you get to visit my friend, Julia's blog? She loves Civil War repro fabrics.

  2. I hope the weatherman cooperates with your weekend plans.

I don't make quilts, but I'll need to live another hundred years or so to make even a dent in my bucket list.

  4. Hi Rose, Hope you do get to make a Dutch Girl quilt someday... That would look great in Lorelei's room!!!!

What pattern are you using for your latest quilt you are making??? I love those Civil War fabrics.

I hope and pray that Lorelei and family can get there to see you this weekend. I know you are anxious to see her. She's ALL GIRL --and growing up so fast...

  8. I didn't realize that the Sun Bonnet Sue quilt pattern was also known as Dutch Girl until just now! Just proves that you can learn something new every day, I guess.
Enjoy your weekend with Lorelei. Grands are so much fun! Mine are coming this weekend too.

  9. I too only know that quilt as a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. I have never been a fan of them, don't know why?

  10. That would be a fun one to make. I'm like that with my quilting, sometimes I go all out and then I can go for days without touching it.

  11. as a child i had all the fairy tale books, there were no movies or TV back then and sleeping beauty and Cinderella were my favorites and the books were worn out and ragged. enjoy your munchin and put all the quilts away for a rainy day.

  12. The pattern of the little girl looks familiar to me. The quilt is very attractive with the doll enhancing the bed.
Sounds like lots of work to me.

  13. Isn't it amazing how many times a little kid can watch a movie and still really enjoy it? Hope you have a great time with Lorelei.

My Great grandmother made quilts similar to this one. Hmmm. I wonder what happened to them.

  14. I'm pretty sure my mother-in-law had one of these quilts. I don't know which family member may have gotten it when she passed.
I think you should definitely make one for Lorelei.

  15. I love the pink quilt - whether dutch doll or sunbonnet sue. Have fun with your visitor. My grand daughters loved the Little Foot movies. Land Before Time.

  16. My grandmother made a quilt like that for me when I was a little girl. Still have it, though I keep it in plastic now, because it's seen better days. Seeing that picture brought back precious memories!
    Thanks Rose!

  17. Nice quilt....I've never heard it called a Dutch Girl before. I've always called them Sunbonnet Sue. Sure looks in nice condition! I think she must be Bo Peep with that little cane? Never seen that either in one.

  18. What a wonderful vintage quilt, Rose! My Mom (Latane at Living Life on Main Street and Latan's Quilts) made our daughter a bonnet girl quilt when she was little. It's for a full sized, and is yellow, and very pretty. I will have to post it some time!
