A no photo post....

I should go take a photo of a clothes basket, but am too lazy to do it. But just have to tell you that that is and always has been one of Lorelei's favorite things. I cannot even think of all the ways she uses it.

She gets under it and crawls around calling herself a turtle or a snail....or she hides under it. We always used to pretend we couldn't find her.

Or else she gets in it and wants a quilt or fleece blanket thrown over it to completely cover it and her. Sometimes she takes a stuffed animal or doll with her and that is part of her make believe..other times she wants us to find her.

Still others, she puts pillow in the bottom and gets in, stretches her legs out, and takes a fleece blanket and snuggles back to watch TV. (It is one of the rectangle ones.) Or she will turn it upside down and sit her dollhouse on it.

Oh, and sometimes I turn it upside down and have her sit on it in front of me while I comb her hair. Who would ever have dreamed a child would get so much fun out of something so ordinary. It is due to her vivid imagination...you can just look at her sometimes and see the wheels turning.

I just wondered if anyone else's grandchildren have something like this that they play with constantly that is not a toy.

  1. My kids used to pull out all of the pots and pans and play with them --instead of their toys....

Bet Lorelei is adorable playing with the laundry basket....

  3. my son david is 47, but when he was small like L is, his favorite thing to do was pull every single book off the book case and place them on the floor

  4. This is an interesting account of Lorelei's creative ability to make a toy of ordinary things.

  6. What fun! She has a very creative mind. Thinking about the clothes basket reminded me of our kids when they were babies. When we would visit my parents in Ohio and go boating on the lake, we would take a large wicker clothes basket and make a bed in it and set it on one of the boat seats. The baby would just lay there and sleep so peacefully with the lulling of the waves and motion. Now I will have to go hunt in my photo albums looking for that photo :-) Thanks for reminding me about clothes baskets. My kids were good about making up things to play with objects around the house, but I can't think of any one object in particular at the moment that they played with a lot.

  7. Laundry baskets can be anything they want them to be! I think every child loves them! :-)

Thanks for your comment on my T-shirt quilt! I have been trying to get back to my sewing machine for days to work on some other projects and just haven't gotten there yet! :-)
