Flea Market Cat

When we were at the flea market this past weekend, one of the first things we saw was this cat.  We had seen him last year and talked to a lady about him.  This time we talked to a gentleman.  Both told the same tale.  They have been coming and setting up at the flea market for about ten years, and each year when they get set up, here comes this kitty and it stays with them the whole time.

It actually belongs to a home just two or three houses away from the flea market.  It comes and makes itself at home, and everyone stops to pet it.  The man said it is fine unless it is three or four little kids and then it gets up and moves.  Last year it was in an actual booth....

How about you...do you like to see a cat or dog in a place of business?  I really think most people prefer it.  We had a dog at work that was the official greeter.  There was one woman from here in town that would complain about him...but she complained about simple stuff.  She had had heartache in her life, and I am sure that played a part in her attitude.

Even though I was out picking apples, pruning, or some other type of work most of the time, I don't know how many times I would walk up to the house for lunch or for something else...I would see people stop, and one would get out to run inside and pick up something.  You could tell by the other's posture that they were planning on staying in the car.  But they would see the old dog, and either get out to go pet him, or else open the door and call him over.

I think they are an ambassador of good will...be it cat or dog.

  1. Awww - what a sweet cat. He/she likes the pets. :) I don't mind a dog or cat in places of businesses. I don't like when people take their animals to the grocery store and such though.

  2. Well, what an interesting question! And I will say that this cat looks almost exactly like our Simba!!! I think animals at work do make people come over and pet them, and it can be good for business. BUT I have to say no to really big dogs. I myself am afraid of them and I think they can intimidate some people and be scary. It's not that I don't like big dogs, it's just that they are, well, BIG and can be scary without their owner controlling them.

  3. Very pretty cat. I like orange cats. When Cheri was very young we/she had an orange cat named Cookie.
When I worked at the Nursery the owner had two large dogs that had the run of the place. everybody loved them. In the office was the store cat named Princess. One of the outdoor nursery workers always had his little dog with him. the dog was a Papillion, very cute. I think you are right---they are ambassadors of goodwill. MB

  4. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE animals. Some people could benefit by taking some lessons from them.

  5. What a sweet looking cat. I don't mind seeing cats in businesses. There is one at a local used book store here and our animal shelter has a full time resident named Carl (an orange tabby) who greets everyone who visits.

  6. beautiful kitty, love his colors. i would prefer a cat or in a business, but there are some who would not go there. my dad did not like pets of any kind and my friend is terrified of all dogs, little and big, so she would not go there, then there are people with allergies. so i am thinking depends on the business, in a flea market those things would not matter at all though

  7. A fine picture of this annual returning cat. Good theory that cats and dogs in a business actually draw people to the business.

  8. I see kittens and dogs in many businesses. There is a bassett hound that hangs out in a produce stand at a flea market near our home. My daughter looks for him everytime she goes by the stand and want to pet him. She knows his name, but I can't remember. Sweet kitten. :)

  9. I love going to places where they have animals. There is even a very casual style restaurant that allows dogs inside. I was surprised but happy to see them. I have been in there several times since and enjoy it when customers come in, sometimes to stay, sometimes to pick up orders. I do wonder how they get passed the health inspector's visits though but am happy to keep company with them while I eat my sandwich. Maybe it's because I am an animal person that I feel so content with animals around me.

  10. p.s. on our recent travels we visited an elderly relative in a retirement home. They have two - very large - dogs who are allowed to roam at will. The pleasure they bring to the residents is immeasurable! I am sure also they are known as very gentle dogs but one was huge, a St. Bernard. His name was/is Bob. We saw Bob get lots of fusses when we were there, from us too.

  11. Oh, such a pretty cat. So interesting that the cat would come to the flea market and stay through the day. I don't mind pets in a place of business. We have friends who own a dinner restaurant. They live in the apartment above, and sometimes their little schnauzer (who is quite elderly now) comes down and walks past all the diners, then goes back upstairs. No one complains. It's like she just wants to know everyone is okay before she turns in for the night.

  12. Our veterinarian has an office cat that is missing one eye. It's a Siamese and is so friendly to everyone. Even dog lovers stop and pet him. It will be a sad day when it passes away!

  13. Yes, I like to see cats or dogs in small town stores. I think a dog in a mall store might make me nervous, though.

  14. Beautiful cat! I like cats in businesses, but am less likely to want to see a dog unless it is really well behaved. Our local Pet Food Center has a cat that lives in it and it will jump up on the canned cat food while you are choosing yours, as if to help you select the right one. Also goes to the door with you, but doesn't go out.

Some cats just like to choose their own place....like the one that lives in my garage, but belongs to the neighbors! A very nice cat, but it wants to belong to us and not them.
