Looking at the photos I have of old barns taken while we were in Tennessee, couple with the thought of every time Neal and I talk, we talk about things we ate as kids...and talk about what we wish we had now. So thought I would give a partial list of some of my favorite foods I ate as a kid.
Fried taters, fried green tomatoes,
Soup beans and cornbread
Bacon and biscuits, biscuits and gravy,
Cocoa
Fried taters, fried green tomatoes,
Soup beans and cornbread
Fried chicken, chicken gravy,
and mashed potatoes...
Blackberry cobbler, fried apple pies,
Stack cakes.
..
..
What more could a person ask for...
Fresh tenderloin, breaded and fried, with a hot biscuit,
Biscuits and homemade jelly
Potato soup, mustard greens, bacon and cornbread,
Chicken-n-dumplings...
Green beans and fried okra...
Corn on the cob, or corn cut off the cob...anyway that is fresh from the garden..
.
These are just a few of my favorite memories, with most of them being things I loved to eat....the exception being stack cakes. I could eat it, but I didn't love it, though I did love the dough, raw, as my mom made the cakes..
Of all the things listed, I would most dearly love to have my mom's chicken and dumplings and some of her bisuits.
Edited to add...Blogger won't let me space this as I would like...this is my third try of trying to edit it. If it does not 'take' this time, I will leave it however blogger does it.
Uour spacing looks alright. I remember my grandmother's clover leaf rolls and sweet buns, she would frost some with chocolate just for me. This barn still looks pretty good.
ReplyDeleteSpacing looks good to me too. Yum, I love what you ate as a kid, and I love the barn. Every time I see a Tennessee barn you post I want to head back there.
ReplyDeleteexactly what i ate, but no fried apple pies or fried green tomatoes.. the rest i had it all.. love the barn
ReplyDeletespacing is perfect
ReplyDeleteThe spacing looks okay. Have you kept a written journal of your memories of childhood??
ReplyDeleteThey all sound very good to me. Many of those I had as a child too. We had little money, but ate very well on the farm.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories. My Mother was a single Mom trying to raise us wild children. My sis and I did a lot of the cooking---probably terrible. But my Mother-in-law was a truly farm gal cook. She made wonderful tummy filling foods. And she baked like a crazy woman. Her butterhorns were the best. Thanks for the memories, Rose.
ReplyDeleteI wish someone would do a barn blog. MB
All of those foods are quite familiar here in central KY. That barn looks like it could be down the road from me :)
ReplyDeleteYou ate some great stuff when you were a kid! So many foods to choose from when you crave ?comfort food."
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of how I cook and we eat now. I wonder, years from now if my children will be remembering and missing all these good things.
