Friday 5...

Just a little photo of a church from Parke County I think.  I don't think I have ever posted it.  Just cannot do a post without one of my own pics.

It is that time of the week...one I really look forward to.  Tanya at Around Roanoke hosts the Willy Nilly Friday 5 where anyone that wants can list 5 Random thoughts or in some cases photos, then go to her blog and join the meme.  It is a really fun meme to join...love reading everyone's thoughts and ideas.  So with that being said, here goes.

1.  Do you ever have to do things to remind yourself of other things you need to do.  I have to do this fairly often....the trick is to find something that will make me think and remember.  I very seldom use HOT water for laundry...basically only with towels, and occasionally sheets.  To remind myself to switch the water temp off of hot, I will set the bottle of soap on the lid so I have to move it before I can remove the laundry.

Same with dryer...I only ever use the cotton/higher heat setting on towels and sheets.  So I set something on the dryer vent to remind me to set the temp back down.  So far, knock on wood, these have worked.   Things that don't work...setting something in plain view with nothing around it till I have to see it.  I think I develop a sort of blindness then...I just don't see those things.

2.  I am reading this:  you can get/see it here.
I have only just started, but think I am going to enjoy it.

3.  I always wonder about our musical tastes....I really liked the song Closing Time by Semisonic...even though I thought it was about a bar.  And I don't drink.  Though in all honesty, some of the lines did not make total sense....but it had that one line that says:  Every new beginning is some other beginning's end.  And I just love that line...it had me for that line alone.  But if you ever listened to the song and thought you knew what it was about then watch the following video...you might get a surprise.

4.  Is anyone watching the new Masterpiece Mystery called Grantchester?  (Right now the link takes you to a page where you can watch the first episode, but the others are available.) It is really good.  Wikipedia says:  Grantchester is a detective drama set in the 1950's Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester near Cambridge, where Local Anglican vica Sidny Chamgers develops a side line in sleuthing--withe the enitially reluctant help of grumpy Detective Inspector Geordie Keating.

5.  Do you like grilled cheese?  And what do you like with it?  When I was getting over the flu during the holidays, I think grilled cheeses saved my life...almost.  LOL  They were one of the few things that tasted good.  I generally use American cheese, but sometimes we get farmer's cheese and use rye bread.....and Sarah was making a grilled cheese and used pepperjack and it looked yummy.  I normally have either dill pickles or tomato soup with mine.  I will eat bread and butter pickles as a last resort.

  2. I thought I recognized that church from a picture I have posted, but it's not the same. I was thinking it was Freedom Baptist Church, but that is north of Parke County.

I have reminder tricks but not the kind that remind me of other things I need to do. Yours are very clever!

The Klondike book sounds interesting. I'm a fan of nonfiction.

That was a first for me, hearing the song "Closing Time." I had to see when it was popular and that timeline was when we were listening more to country, like Toby Keith, etc.

I'll have to find a piece of time to watch that first episode of Grantchester. Sounds interesting.

I love grilled (sharp cheddar) cheese with yellow mustard and bread and butter pickles inside the sandwich. A side of tomato soup is always good, too. Now I'm hungry!

I enjoyed your Willy Nilly Friday 5! :)

Hope you have a good weekend -

    Lindy

  4. ha, i thought it was about a bar too! there's a song lyric by the butthole surfers (haha) that goes "you never know just how you look through other people's eyes" that always sticks with me...lots do but i just thought of that one! but then some lyrics are just plain stupid when you read them, even if the song is good...i like grilled cheese but rarely eat them, although i do make them a lot for the boys. i just use american and white bread. i butter the outsides and grill...i like it with tomato soup! my husband says i make the best grilled cheese haha...i hope you really like that book, looks interesting! thank you for linking and have a wonderful valentine's day!!

  5. #1 is just genius....I usually leave myself notes; that is when I remember to leave myself notes! HA.
I had no idea about that song; I thought it was about a bar closing for the day! Thanks for sharing.
Grilled cheese and tomato soup is one of my favorite comfort foods!

  6. we both love grilled cheese sandwiches and we use different breads, my favorite is with white bread, but we love the rye and the pumpernickel to, wheat bread not so much... we just eat the sandwich, nothing else. chips would be nice but we don't have them in the house because of my lack of control.

yes yes and yes.. i do all the signs to remind me. as i type this the hamper is sitting in the middle of the bed.. it is telling me the clothes are in the wash, every time i go in there to potty it yells at me i am doing laundry.

when we come home from the gym, i have 4 exerciser i have to do at home, i leave the leash i use on the bed, it says do the exercise. there are more but no time to write them or for you to read

  7. I have to leave myself reminders, too. I used to leave a vitamin bottle in the center of the kitchen counter to remind me to take it, but now I have a kitty that likes to bat it off, so I'll have to find another way.
Love grilled cheese! But nay to the tomato soup. One year we ate it so much that I got burned out and never ate it again. lol!
    Happy Valentine's weekend to you!

  8. I Really LIKE Grilled Cheese - even if i haven't had one in years - even the suggestion of grilled cheese makes me happy inside because i had a friend, who would invite me over to his house - and one day he made a grilled cheese on his mom's grill on top of the stove - and it set itself on fire - and he put the fire out and served it - it was the best thing i think I've ever eaten - and, his mom wasn't ever angry because we were the very best of friends and . . . he was trying to do something special - now that you've reminded me - i believe THAT is My Valentine Story. thank you.

  11. I wish we had started watching Grantchester from the beginning. I think it looks like one we would enjoy! When I make grilled cheese, I use one slice of cheddar and one slice of Havarti...so good! Happy Valentine's Day! xox, Diane
