Just a bit of whining!

I couldn't resist these shots of the thistle...
Not sure how bad out of focus this will look to you...the center is not too bad for me, but the bottom of the pic is pretty bad and the outer portion of the top is none too good.
(In this shot above the outter stickery parts are more in focus.)
It is the fault of the wind...it never stops here in the Midwest.  At least any time I am trying to take a picture of something like this, it is either blowing or it starts to blow.
So, any picture that is in focus, is simply a stroke of luck and timing.

************
It poured the rain last night...at least 3 different times that I am aware of.  The river was up yesterday, but I would bet it is out of the banks today after all that rain last night.  I don't think I have ever seen it rain this hard, except maybe one time in the 1990's.

We were coming home from Indianapolis...I am not sure why we were over there.  We had a Dodge minivan and it was relatively new, so had to be along 1992-93-94...it started raining.  Just literally like pouring water out of a bucket.  Our windshield wipers quit working...the wiper motor torn up.  I have always believed it had something to do with the amount of water they were trying to deal with.  I think it stripped something in the motor.

We were on a state highway, no place to pull off the road.  I had to open my window, hang my head out and watch the side of the road to tell Roger how to drive.  The rain slowed down right after this happened, thank goodness. He could half way drive, and I didn't get soaked too bad.

Anyway, that is the type of rain we had last night, and got up to actual coolness this morn, but it has heated up some this evening.  It was 82ºF the last time I looked.  I just now hung out a load of clothes.  I think they will get most of the way dry.  Rain is in the prediction for almost every day this week...depending on whose forecast you are going by so I wanted to do what I can.

  1. That rain has been out here in the east, too. We do need it though. I love your thistle pics!! They are very photogenic and you did a great job with them.

  2. Your thistle shots are beautiful Rose, and I particularly like the first one... the outer edges being slightly softened makes the centre really pop!
I think it's sweet that your youngest calls Roger Pops - a special name for a special dad. =)

  6. In or out of focus, enjoyed these photos. Beautiful thistle. Rain on and off here. It needs to go off so we can finish outdoor painting!

  7. i think these photos are perfect, i love all of them. now i want a bucket of thistles. wonder if they grow down here. i have never seen one... our starting temp this morning at 5 am is 81 and climbing fast. we have been having 10 minute afternoon thunder boomers, but hot sun the rest of the time and 92 is our high today. but NC and GA were at 100 yesterday.

  8. Even thistles can make for pretty pictures, right? I have been in rain showers like that, and actually snowstorms as well, when you can't see a thing. As for the weather predictions, they are seldom correct!

  9. I kinda like a little blur in a picture at times. Not always of course. anyway the pics look good.
I wish it would rain here. Good old rainy western Washington hasn't had any any any rain in ever so long. Sometime in may it sprinkled I think. Our well is low now so we have been hauling water to water the garden. Got 55 gallon barrels and a cool little pump to water with. Not so bad. Just wish we would get some rain.

  11. That is an amazing and beautiful Thistle.
Wow that must have been some rain. I've done the lean out the window thing but in a snow storm instead of rain. Neither would be much fun.

  12. Your last shot of the thistle is great! We just pulled up all that we saw in our ditches the other day...they're not our favorite weed, but I certainly don't mind enjoying their beauty in pictures! Today it really poured--I don't think we'll be working in our garden again for a bit. And yes, I totally know what you mean about the challenges of taking photos outdoors in the windy Midwest! Enjoyed your post!
