Time for a little bit of randomness

1.  Have you actually thought about how close it is to Christmas?  Even with seeing decorations out, I still had not paused to think.  And I still refuse to think much about it.  I want to wait till after Thanksgiving.
2.  This kind of cornbread is one thing I crave every so often...I have been craving it this week, but have still not taken the time to make a pan.  However, I did make a big pot of potato soup today and it is wonderful.  I love soups of any kind, any time, but they are especially good once there is a chill to the air.  How about it--do you like them any time or only after it has turned cold?
3.  I think this is the first year I have ever missed being in the woods and seeing ginseng.  I usually want to go just to see it and to take a fresh pic of it.  It now has a season to dig it, but when I grew up, you could hunt it any time.  Even then, our favorite time to hunt it was in the fall when it turned cold and had seeds to leave behind.
4.  I don't know why, but the Amish fascinate me, do they you?
5.  Don't you know that walking out into a yard with all that gold would cure about any sickness?  Or at the least, make one forget it for a bit.

Linking to Tanya's Willy Nilly Friday 5....then it is back to get another bowl of potato soup!

  1. I absolutely loved these photos Rose, and your ‘five’. No I can’t believe Christmas is just around the corner. I’m seeing all the decorations too and not quite taking it all in. The cornbread looks delicious. I love it but you know when I first came here and my mother-in-law served it up, I thought it was really strange she was serving up cake with chicken (her specialty was the greatest fried chicken I had ever eaten. In fact it was the first fried chicken I had eaten, my mum always used to roast hers and that’s all I knew but of course I grew to love my mother-in-law's cornbread and make some every now and again.) As for the soup I tend not to make any until the colder weather comes along. I love a good hearty soup. I love walking in the woods but have never seen ginseng. It has such a pretty leaf. I do find the Amish way of life very interesting, like stepping back in time. Occasionally I will see them on our travels and always love the simplicity of their clothing, and their furniture=. Autumn colors, Autumn gold? Yes, when I am out in it I feel truly at peace. Have a great weekend Rose :)

  2. #1 It has a way of sneaking up on you!
#2 That cornbread sure looks good. We make chicken soup all the time, I had some for supper tonight.
#3 I have never seen ginseng.
#4 They sure fascinate me. I visited two two Amish friends this afternoon and will spend the day tomorrow visiting more.
#5 I agree, but my allergies have awful this fall.

  3. Gorgeous photos, Rose! That golden tree! And it was fun seeing the ginseng photo. I have a cousin who digs it, I think every year. You have to protect where you get it from so it won't get removed completely...glad you always used to leave seeds behind in the fall. Christmas is definitely barreling don on us. I can never wait till after Thanksgiving to think about it, because then there is so little time left I feel rushed and don't enjoy it as much. Love to prepare certain things way ahead.

  4. I love your collection of pics, Rose. Your cat photo would make a great Christmas card! We love soup after the weather turns cool; cornbread is a favorite (hot with butter is good, too!). Wishing you a very nice weekend.

  6. That cornbread looks so good I want to reach into my computer and cut myself a slice. And a bowl of hearty soup would go nicely with it! Sometimes I think the Amish are lucky they are not caught up in having as much stuff as the rest of us...but then I remember i could get rid of a lot of the stuff I have...BUT it's not that easy to part with our modern way of life. I do admire the Amish, though.

  7. Well, I did not read this post until this morning (Saturday) and you gave me a brilliant idea. Today is college football for me and guess what I will be having for dinner tonight? Yep, cornbread and soup. Thank you so much for suggesting it.

That tree is amazing. I would love to walk out under it every day until every leaf fell. Such a happy thought.

  8. I like every image you posted. Wonderful. I do love the falling leaves. we have 5 huge Sycamore trees in the front (my house not Bob's) and the large golden leaves are beautiful specially mingled with the red and orange of the Japanese Maples.

I am fascinated by the Amish--simplicity mastering the world. I have not thought much about Christmas yet and I say yet cautiously cause I do see the signs.
Ginseng is something I have read a lot about but have never seen it---not out this way.
    Happy Weekend

  9. I forgot about the soup. We make soup all the time. Three days ago Potato and Onion soup and last night Bob threw together some veggie style with the leftover meat from the night before. Almost a stew. Yummy.
Bob's children call him the 'Soup maker'.

  10. those fall leaves are gorgeous. i know for some they prefer to wait for Christmas decor and all but i have started because i feel every year i feel it comes along & is gone before i blink. so this year, i will feel it, ease into it more gracefully. really enjoy it. or at least i am going to try?? i certainly don't want to make it rush by i want to get the feeling of the spirit within me. i won't be a Grinch. ha. ha! 11. We have ginseng in our area and has it's own season here as well. We do business with the Amish here. I've gotten used to them now, at first I would try not to stare at them too much :)
