From the Heron Viewing Station

This pair of geese were the first to greet us at the Heron County Park...north of Danville, Illinois.

Next we spotted this pair.  They were quite a distance away.

The photos are a bit bleary.

We had to use the binoculars and spotting scope to identify them.   I took these with my little Canon SX700 HS at full zoom.  Before I could put it away and get my other camera situated, they took off, and one came right over us and tried to nab something from the water  maybe a hundred yards from us.  I couldn't believe it, couldn't react quick enough to get a picture.  There were ducks and geese there, but I somehow felt it was after fish.  And Lorelei got to see it all.

All the time we were seeing a heron or two fly in or leave, plus other waterbirds in the distance.

Finally, a heron close enough to get a half decent shot.

And Lorelei found this goose fascinating...I had to show her daddy a pic of it when he came to get her....

  4. I thought that I left a comment on your last post but I guess not. Reading it brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me so much of when my granddaughter Madison was Lorelei's age. She would spend a few days with us. She and I would sleep together. I would drive to pick her up and bring her home. We missed her so much after she had been here. Madison is grown up now. She graduates this year. I love hearing about your sweet Lorelei. She is adorable.

  9. How neat to have a viewing area near you. Canada honkers I can do without although they are pretty. They come to our pond every year and have babies---thats not so bad but last year they brought back the entire family plus 7 gosling and they do foul up the whole place. 20some Geese for a couple of months is not fun. Not good for the pastures. Sorry about ranting. Now the eagles are always a happy experience. I always get excited when I see them and you have some gorgeous shots there. like Herons too---skittish things. I'll stop by the side of the road to get a snap---one is usually in the ditch but as soon as I put up my camera---flash--they are gone.
Glad Lorelei was excited too. I do miss Kylee and hanging out with her---it is not the same as she is 22 now.
Miss L. will be back to visit soon. did they move closer? I wish she was out here so you could take here picture in the Tulips. I got some good one of bob's Gread grnd daughter last year.
