Where to begin....

I don't know where to begin...but it is not like there is a lot to tell.

I will start with these pics from yesterday.  We had just got home and I got out of the Rav4, and first noticed a hawk.  Alright!  So happy to see it.  Then I saw a Turkey Vulture, but then way, way on past it, pretty high up, I saw this!  It was so far I could not see that it has the white head, but just recognized it by how it flies how it looks in flight.  It was an overcast day and these were the best I could get.

Then Roger says "Is there two?"...I was trying to hold my camera on the one and had sure not noticed another and said no but when I brought my camera  and looked up, yes, there were two!  Just made our day.   BTW, both photos are cropped pretty heavily from the original.

I have finished 8 more of the appliqued leaves but haven't taken a photo.  I suppose they are pretty boring to people that don't quilt.  I need another design wall to hang them on since daughter and I have the current project on it that I cannot show.

**********
I have been getting messages from people over on my other blog that sometimes they try to comment, and they get the page where they get the CAPTCHA thing...I wondered has anyone else had problems like this?  These people have their photo blogs on another site other than blogger.  I have had word verification turned off for ages and ages, and I just moderate comments that are on posts a few days old.

ALSO, sometimes I get the message that someone has left a comment, on this blog, but never on Time Stand Still.  And on this one, I got them for a day or two recently and now back to not getting them at all.  And I quit getting the notice that a comment needed to be moderated ages and ages ago.

************

I just read Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser.  It took me forever, and I do mean forever.  So long I am embarrassed to tell how long I think it took.  Has anyone here read it?  It has really left me sort of stunned, and I don't really know what I think even.    It sure was not what I expected in so many ways.

On the other hand I am reading :
The Dark Heart  A True Story of Greed, Murder, and an Unlikely Investigator by Joakim Palmkvist....I got it free a while back.  It is set in Sweden and I was afraid it would be hard to follow, but instead it is hard to stop once I read a page.

How about a fun shot?  A two headed swan!

It isn't of course, but if you expand the view you can see that it is two side by side.   I did not know I had got this till I downloaded the pics and were looking through them.

  1. The swan picture is very cool! Is this a Bald Eagle! I have never seen a real one in the wild.

  2. I love your pictures! The eagle is wonderful and that two headed swan is funny! What kind of camera do you use? You always take the best pictures. It has gotten to where I have trouble holding the camera still enough to get a clear picture.

Rose, go to the settings button on your blogger dashboard and select 'comments etc' button from the drop-down list there. You will see choices, included 'embedded' for comments forms. I use that. What you have at the moment is the 'pop-up window' style. It does contain a captcha - but it is not enforced. I never use it. It is just possible that this format does seek captcha from non-Blogger bloggers. So if you prefer to be friendly to all, then embed is the option. Also, you need to assess whether you are accepting from Google users only, or allow 'anonymous' which will permit all and sundry - including open slather on trolls and spam...

As to the notifications, just go to your 'email' button on settings and remove your email. Save. Close. Go back, re-enter your email addy at that point and save again.

  4. Nice captures of birds in flight. I thought I was seeing double swan or something wrong with my eyes.

  5. We don't get eagles or raptors here. Being on the coast the biggest birds we get are gulls. We get a lot of visiting birds on the lake and in the salt marshes

  6. I can't imagine seeing an Eagle...especially two! The picture of the two headed swan is amazing. Could they get any closer? :) Oh I just love how Bubbie took over your basket (your last post). Isn't it funny how things like the basket sorta find a place that fits perfect.

  7. Great Pics! I am always elated to see a hawk. More so if I see an eagle. You never know when you have troubles with Blogger if it is a glitch or if you need to change a setting.

  8. Hello,

It is always a treat to see the eagles. I love the swan photo too.
I like seeing your pretty leaves for the quilt. There are certain blogs I have trouble commenting on, not sure why. Enjoy your day, have a great weekend!

  9. Eagles! And two at the same time. That is amazing. As is the swan image. No 'bout the books. The murder mystery sounds very intriguing. And the one about Wilder, my daughter would like I'm sure.

  10. the swans are so close together I did not notice the 2nd one until I read your post... wow on two eagles at one time... I am always interested in your quilting, and I don't quilt but would if I could. I like seeing what others do that I can't/don't do... bring it on

  11. I had the same issues with the email thing, several times. each time I did the email setting thing that yam mentioned, delete it, save it, add it save it in all the email settings. it will work for a while and do it again. I think mine has done that 3 times in the past 6 months

  12. I took similar photos of birds yesterday which didn’t help me identify the creatures. The experience of seeing them is always fun however.

  13. What a joy to see those eagles. The swans are so quirky - I often zoom in on my photos to see what is really there and it is surprising how often something funny crops up that I never saw when I took the photo.

I don't have any problem leaving comments on either of your blogs.

  16. I haven't read Prairie Fires but it looks interesting. I have to wait until I've read the ones I have stacked up here before I buy more.
You captured that image of the two-headed Swan quite well!!

  17. How awesome to find two hawks around, that's so unusual.
As for comments and moderation, I find that Blogger sometimes has a glitch that might last for a few days, so maybe it's just a temporary problem.

  20. well if I had produced a double headed swan, no one would even ask about it - as I have lot of trouble with my hands and I get some interesting "takes"...and no advice on how to deal with is required. I love those interesting pics when I can be bothered to load them :-)

  21. I haven't read that book but there was some kind of Laura Ingalls festival in Pepin, WI around my visit there last year.
Today someone was talking about all the golden eagles they saw and it made me think how all I see are hawks or maybe falcons, not sure which, but they are all over the lights on the highway.
I think the photos turned out well, I feel like I'm flying with the birds, lol.

  22. Aren't these birds beautiful in flight and how exciting to see the eagles? The last one with the swans and geese is really cool. I need to visit your other blog more often but I was over there a little while ago and didn't have a problem. I hope it has fixed itself. I haven't read Prairie Fire, and the other sounds like an interesting read. Enjoy the rest of your week Rose.
