ETC

I came home today after taking Roger to breakfast and sat down...whether it was before or after I stuck a load of clothes in the washer, I cannot say for sure.  But I no more than sat down till Bubbie was up in my lap.  He sat a few minutes and got down, and here came Puss Puss.  She got settled, and Bubbie decided to come back.   I had not planned to sit very long, but when they get in my lap and snuggle in, I just don't have the heart to make them get up right away...so I sat with them about 15 minutes.

I got another set of wire shelves for my sewing room.  They are 36 inches wide.  I then moved the little plastic 3-drawer  things to under my cutting table.  It feels so much better in there.  I worked some this evening on a project my daughter and I have started.  I want to get it done.  Originally, she was really just helping me, but she done so much, I have to acknowledge that it is as much hers, in some ways, more than mine.  She designed the layout.  When we work together, she does the cutting and I do the sewing.

Seems like things have conspired against us to keep us from having another day to work together on it.  So I decided to  attempt getting more of it done...and actually got some trimming done, and two more blocks made.

Batik fabrics are stamped with a resist and then dyed.  Not printed.  So they are basically the same on back and front.    Some people think they can tell the difference,  and sometimes I think I can tell a very slight difference, but even then I am not sure which was the front and which is the back

Also, the photos do not do the fabrics justice.

I really wish you could see them as they really are.

The above are some batik scraps daughter bought for me but I had not taken the time to photograph them.  I am not showing all of them, but just a few of my favorites.  All of these are a decent size...enough to really do something with if I can ever decide what.

I am leaving you with a little video.

I could not even laugh at videos like this for a while, after I broke my leg.

I hope you all are having a good week!

  1. The fabrics are really beautiful even in the photos! It's so wonderful that you and your daughter work together on quilting projects. I have some really good memories from the times my mom and I worked together. You have such a nice sewing area.

  2. I used to love it when the cats sat on me like that. Sometimes they would hardly even wait for you to sit down!

  3. The fabrics are amazing. I have never heard of resist-dying but it sounds interesting. I think I would have a hard time cutting into such gorgeous material.
You're right about the little video. Anyone who has ever slipped and got hurt on ice would cringe to watch those poor people go sprawling.

  4. I never knew what Batik is...ust some kind of fabric. So it is stamped with something that does not take up the dye? These are beautiful!! I especially love the last ones. Your kitties sure adore you!

  5. I can only last about five minutes with a dog on my lap, makes my Arthur hurt. but bob gets trapped and he will sit or lay until his leg is numb, rather than make one of the dogs get up. it Tooke Big almost a year before he would lay on Bob. now he loves it. can Batik fabrics be bought by the yard and used for other things than quilting? I love the swirly in the first, the flowers in the last and either would be nice to cover my kitchen chairs. love those colors. in fact all these are gorgeous.. is it soft and silky?

  6. The fabrics are so pretty on MY monitor. I confess I just love that dark one.
Each of our Min Pins love to lay on our laps. We have the same problem of not wanting to move them when they are so so comfortable. I have shelves and counter all around my sewing room. I have saved a door that we bought to replace one in the back hall. I'll take it when we move to create a cutting table. I have seen small chest of drawer or those cubbies used to make one and have had it in my mind that I want one if my new sewing room would be large enough. Your room is so organized. I use much of the same plastic storage that I do.

  9. It feels nice to have your pets snuggle onto your lap. Your craft room is very tidy. I would love to have a room to store my things.

  10. That video was funny!!! Didn't seem like any of them were hurt. I've been in many situations like that. : )

The fabric is unusual and very pretty.

Your sewing room looks neat and tidy with the shelves.

  12. Isn't it wonderful to hold cats. I usually just get one at a time in my lap. They don't like to share! You have some great storage in your sewing room. Storage is always a problem for me. I sure love those batiks!

  13. Now that is a sweet picture you shared. I wouldn’t have the heart to move them either. A real nice shared project for you and your daughter. I never knew that about Batik, something I learned today. Such pretty fabrics! Oh wow, that video! I didn’t know whether to laugh, wince or cry, lol! I had a spell where I fell so much in icy weather that I was too scared to go out in it for a while. Nothing like you had to deal with but I had a few good bruises. If we ever get out of this house we will not be getting a place on a hill. The driveway has been my undoing. I’ve seen hubs ski down with arms stretched on his shoes like a down hill skier ;)

  14. I wanted to pop over and visit you since you just found me. I am your newest follower. I see you are a 'fabric lady', too. I have so much fabric that I am looking forward to using once we get moved. Can't wait to dig my sewing machine out.
Signing up to follow you, too! xo Diana

  16. Our Dunperoo is just like your two kitties. Tabbies are so sweet and loving and such lap cats. No kidding, Dumperoo will be somewhere sleeping for half the day and the minute I sit down in the living room he appears and jumps into my lap. How does he know! That video is so funny. I hate to laugh because I am so afraid of falling, but just can't help it. We never have ice like that around here, thankfully!

  17. Well, I can't begin without saying ...LOVE that first photo!

The materials are pretty colors & what you're doing to your room is gonba make it more organized for you then?

  18. Will you come and organize my sewing room now? Love all the batiks! My favorite fabrics. I can usually tell a very slight difference in the two sides and try to choose the brighter side, but really there is so little difference it doesn't seem to matter. The quilt I'm working on now is all batiks.

  19. Time spent with the kitties is NEVER wasted.

P.S. Thanks for the ICY laughs. I needed that today.

  20. Hi, Wow---your 'sewing room' is looking good...

My blog post today is talking about ICE..... I know how hard it is to try to walk on that stuff....

Hope you are are staying healthy during these scary times. No Covid 19 cases in our county so far --but we are being very very careful through this Virus scare. We also are not panicking --and definitely not hoarding items/food, etc... People can be nuts at times like this.

    Stay healthy and safe.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
