Those Were the Days...

First a pic of me...back when I worked at the orchard...that was so much fun.  When I first started I had a crate in front of me and two behind.  They held a bushel each.

And then I was looking through pics and found the one below.  Look close.

Do you see Charlie(short for Charlotte) stretched out against Delta?  This had to be over two years ago.  It is when Charlie was a young kitty.

*********

Daughter came yesterday and we worked on her curtains again.

That is the fabric she chose.  She used it before in her house in Missouri.

If anyone ever orders fabric for curtains, be sure and talk to someone and make sure it is understood that you want it in one length, or give them a minimum length of the pieces.  The is drapery fabric.  Not cheap even though she got it half price.  It was from a big name company.  They are in most bigger cities around here.  Even Terre Haute used to have two, but they did go down to one.

Anyway, my daughter ordered it on line, before she even got moved, and it came.  She did not open right away.  When she did it was in pieces.  I know at least 3 pieces...and two of them are two short for anything.  But it was so much later that she opened it that she didn't really complain.  I would have been very vocal.  $25 a yard is too much to pay and get pieces.  And you don't want pieces when you order curtain matierial and  they should know that.  Especially when it is pattern that big that has to be matched.

I have been busy all day...we even went to Menard's and picked up a few things.  Doing this and that around here.  I stepped outside to go pick the two or three tomatoes that were ripe, and the heat hit me like a brick wall.  I came in and checked the temp...it was 92°F but felt like 113°F.

Then right before dark I heard the chairs on the back porch rattling and just as I opened the door the wind tilted the wooden swing forward, but not till it fell, pick on its toes of the front 'legs'  and blew all the way across the porch...and only stopped because it hit the last post.  It blew chairs along in front of it.

I hope your week has gotten off to a good start.

  1. That is SOME wind! Wow, this newspaper pic of you is so cool! I think if I had been way up there, I would have thrown up! Gosh, this will make your dughter a lot more work, having to match up the pieces. I hope she can somehow give them a bad rating for quality control.

  2. I like the picture of you picking apples. I would be too scare to be picking apples. I hope you and daughter will be able to put the pieces together to make a lovely curtain. We are experiencing the same heat here. Wow! That is very strong wind. Hope no damage is caused by the wind.

  5. Yesterday started and ended with storms here. Last night sure was something. I had already put my trash out for p/u and it was very heavy - oops it went down. Limbs blowing all over. Thankfully no real damage.
What a sweet picture of the kitty and dog.
    Have a 'cool' day!

  8. That was quite a breeze! The heat must be stifling.

My mother-in-law and her mother made drapes for a department store. The material was expensive fifty years ago. It is ridiculous the company sent pieces. They will do what they want and see if they can get away with it.

  12. That's a great picture of you up high in that bucket picking fruit. That wouldn't be for me. Heights make me dizzy!!
That must have been some wind that swept the swing and chairs along the porch.

  13. Oh my goodness! You were up high picking the fruit. That doesn’t look like a job I would enjoy.

  14. I love those pictures! I would be afraid to be up that high. You are a brave lady! I love the two sleepy friends too. When dogs and cats are raised together they usually get along very well.

That's too bad about your daughter's fabric. It's pretty fabric but they should know better than to send it in pieces like that. She is lucky to have you to help! That sounds like some strong wind! You two take care Rose!

  17. What a lovely photo of you Rose, that sounds like so much fun. A very cute picture of Charlie and Delta. Pretty fabric for the curtains. I never would have thought that the company would send it in different pieces. A good tip to know, thank you for that. I wouldn’t have been very happy at that price, and the fact that you have to match the pattern when ordering more. Glad to hear your porch swing didn’t do any damage. It is 90 degrees here :( It rained like the dickens last night and we had a very loud thunderstorm which woke me up with such a start, I almost fell out of the bed! It has been a long time since we had a thunderstorm that sounded like it was right over our heads. We even looked out to see if lightening had struck close by. This was around 2.00 a.m. Enjoy the rest of your week and hopefully it will get cooler :)

  19. Gosh, your temps are about what OURS are. Luckily we have less humidity here. There is always some strength of wind blowing dirt, even if it's only 1 MPH. That picture of you looks like it might have been in a newspaper. The job I had the most fun at was when I was 13 I was a car hop at a little root beer stand. I was too young to work, but back then it was no big deal. When I turned 14 I started working at a bakery as a sales clerk after school. I'm pretty sure when you order fabric on line there is small print somewhere that says they will send pieces if they don't have a piece large as you want. But to be honest I find that most people that work today just don't have much common sense. Lots of those that work in big fabric shops don't even sew! A few months back I was in the fabric department at Hobby Lobby. A customer asked the clerk how much fabric was left on a bolt. I mentioned to the clerk before she measured that 3 times around the bolt was about a yard so she could estimate before she measured. (I used to work in a Singer store selling fabric and machines). We learn a lot in this life. Too bad we can't remember it all.
    Be well and be safe.
    xx, Carol
