The snow and how it blows....

Please enlarge these for better viewing. I know they are sort of drab, but that is how the day was!In previous posts I have talked about how the wind blows here...and I know it probably blows as hard and harder other places. I tried to capture scenes that show the snow moving...forming its own little mini whirlwind as above,
or just the sideways blow...the kind that you don't know if it is actually snowing or just blowing the snow around that is already there....and this one going down the road showing how hard the wind can blow. These cows were cold. They were all laying there huddled together till we stopped and I got out of the car. They jumped up, on the alert. I am not sure if they were afraid or if they thought I might be bringing them something good to eat. These starlings along with some doves were eating at one of the feeders. Someone had thrown grain on the roof of the feeder. I assumed on purpose.

  1. It definitely looks like winter in Indiana. I'm pretty sure the cattle were expecting something good to eat when you stopped.

  2. Gee Rose, You all really do have lots of wind, don't you???? BUT--you did get some snow. We have freezing rain now and that is the pits!!!! Probably won't be able to get to church tomorrow.

Our Starlings were smaller than your big blackbirds... Think we just had the little ones--although I saw a few big ones mixed in. Hope they are gone from our area!!!
    Hugs,

  3. Great photo captures of the blowing snow and those are not that easy to get. Looks so cold, like it is here.
    Happy winter!

  4. This is a fine series showing what a wind can do in snowy times. I grew up in Kansas and saw many fields blown clean of snow but the roads drifted full! :-)
    A fine series.

  5. Those are wonderful wind shots, especially that top one - it looks like a fairy dervish! And the cows and crows patiently (no choice I guess) waiting out the winter, the faces and attitudes made me smile!

  6. It looks very cold, Rose. The win is blowing here too causing whiteouts on the roads.

  7. Brrrrrrr your pictures make me cold just looking at them from inside my warm house :>). Today in PA we actually made it above 0 degrees, but we are getting some very fine snow! Great job with your pics, have a great day, stay out of that wind!

  8. The poor animals - I feel so sorry for animals in the winter - it's awful!

  9. The poor cows with snow on them. All the animals. Was just reading the winters like this with so much snow and cold can hurt the deer numbers. Hope the animals and birds are all ok.

  12. I love the whirling snow in the first one Rose.
Those poor cows. Everytime we pass some farm and they're all out my husband says they need some place to go.
I love the snow like you do; but I'm thinking I need a little sunshine to make it sparkle! :)

Sorry I wasn't around earlier than this - migranes are bothering me and I'm pretty slow today.

  14. What a sight. I've lived in snow, it was a long time ago, but I totally identify with these photos. I especially enjoyed the first one.
