I have spent a big part of this day pulling out fabric and putting it back up. It is a wonder it doesn't look like this tote of scraps.
I have a backing almost all the way made for my small quilt, but I do not like it. I don't like it at all. I cannot make up my mind what to do...do I put it all away and come back to it later? Should I cut it apart and sew it back together...kind of mix it up? Do I put this backing away and start a totally new one?
I didn't want to start a new one, but I am close to making that decision. Even if I am not down there messing with it all, I am sitting with the thought of it sitting there in the back of my mind.
That is a tough one Rose. If you really don't like it and you won't be happy with it, I would definitely take the time and make a new backing. Maybe it would work with another quilt.
ReplyDeleteSometimes when we get in hard situations where decisions need to be made, it's best to walk away from it for awhile and do something different... THEN--you will decide what to do later!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck.

Betsy
Bless your heart! I always just stick to one fabric for the backing. That's about all the decision making I can handle after getting a top done.
ReplyDeleteJust take a break away from it. You will make the right decision.
Well, if the backing is not sewn on yet, you could make another backing. But maybe it is not that bad, let's see it!
ReplyDeleteI hate when I start something and think that it's going to be wonderful, but am disappointed when it doesn't look like I imagined. I say start over. When I have continued, thinking it will turn out better when I finish, it usually gets redone anyway. Just my opinion from my past.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of scraps! Can you make another backing? Silly me - of course you could! lol
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. I would leave it a few days to think about it and then come back to it.
ReplyDeleteIs Lorelei still enjoying school?
what you are doing is just what bob does when building a plane out of his head, he sits and thinks about it even when he is not working on it. i think it is great you have this to give yous something you like to do...
ReplyDeleteI think that putting it away for awhile sounds like the right idea. Also, a new and different backing sounds good, too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGetting away from it for a while is a good idea. You may feel different about it when you look at it again. And an easy solution may pop into your mind, something a little tweaking might do to make it look totally different. Don't give up on it yet, Rose! :))
ReplyDeleteI guess I would put it away and rethink the whole deal. then bring it out and if you still don't like it take it off and redo. Since I'm not doing it it was an easy decision. haha
ReplyDeleteNot easy. My Mother made quilts and I remember her taking so much apart because it just wasn't RIGHT. I pity you. LOL MB
Step away for awhile...it will make a good winter project...:)
