Storm damage....

We had more rain late this evening...it rained and the wind blew some here, but nothing awful.  Though the electric did flicker on and off several times, it did not stay off a single time.

Then I got a call from Jeremy asking how we were...did we have a storm.  So I told him it had rained hard, but no damage here.

This and the following photos are from their yard.

When he told me they had a limb out, I did not think it was this big, though in rethinking it, I don't know why I didn't.  The old oak tree is big...

What a mess it is!  His brother has come over and helped clean up some of the mess.

Along with the fence, it also pulled off some guttering and the drip edge.

This one is taken from the front of their house looking back.

  1. Good grief!! And it is so close to his house! It almost lit on top of the roof! They must have had what is called Straight Line Winds. Thank God that He was watching over them.

  4. so glad their home is safe, could have been worse than it is, that is one giant tree and so beautiful. it will take lots of work to clear that. we lost one that big in Gabriella the TS in 2001, took out our fence and almost go the neighbors house.

  7. Big trees are wonderful. I'm a tree hugger from way back. But, in a storm they can destroy everything you own. We have a very large oak that is too close for comfort and every time we have a big storm we hold our breath. Glad no one got hurt and the fence and guttering are the only losses. Now, on to the cleanup process which is not an easy project either.

  8. We have been having a lot of that in past weeks.
WE didn't get anything bad but trees down all over
the city. Those strong guys will have that cleaned up
    in no time.

  10. It looks like your son has his work cut out for him. I am glad that the tree missed the roof!

  11. That is so scary! Sure glad it missed the house. It looks like we might have a thunderstorm this afternoon and it is very hot and humid. I'm hoping Dan gets home from work before we do. I don't like being alone in a storm.

  12. Last summer we had about 1/2 of our best maple tree come done in the back yard. The entire width of the yard (110') was blocked by huge tree limbs. Poor dogs were confused on how to get to the back where they usually do their business. It took most of the summer to clear the yard, as we were relying on the kids to work when they could. It's very disheartening to lose even part of a tree like that. Luckily ours didn't damage our house, but it sure broke up two fences. I'm glad there were no casualties at Jeremy's house.

    Be safe.
    xx, Carol

PS. Those short electric outs even if a flash are a pain. All the clocks need to be reset. Yesterday Terry asked me why the microwave and stove had different times. I just got tired of resetting them, lol.

  13. Gosh! That looks like some rough weather you've had passing through. It's always sad to see a majestic old tree taken down by the wind.
