Where to start...

So, I will start with yesterday...I had to go to Walmart and decided to run out to the strip pits to see what was going on.  There were a lot of white fronted geese and and a few swans, and I know I saw a few Canada geese somewhere along the way.

The camera was zoomed in and I was trying to shoot while sitting in the Rav4 simply because it was too muddy to get out of the vehicle.

These first three pics are at the first strip pit, just few hundred feet off the highway.  You can actually get glimpses from the highway if you look.  I would suggest if you want to get a better view, to click to expand the view, and if you want an even bigger view, right click and click to open in a new tab or window.

The photos below are from one of the bigger strip pits.  The first view is actually what it looks like without zooming in:

And for the photo below, I had driven on west a tiny bit and zoomed in to the far end.  It is probably close to a mile from one end to the other.

I should have tried using my monopod, but for some reason it did not cross my mind.

One of these days I will have this quilt top completely quilted...

It is serving as an experiment in quilting.  I am trying different designs in the quilting...

I am not great at any of them, but it will serve the purpose..

There are a lot of 'mistakes' but I doubt you will notice them here.  At leas I hope they aren't too glaring.

There a bit of the quilting so far.  More than half the blocks have been quilting, but I have not touched the sashings or the borders.  So still a while to go before I am done.   I should have went down and worked on it today rather than play in my sewing room.  I am continuing with trying to sew at least 15 minutes every day....so far, so good.

Last night we watched a show of the favorite Super Bowl commercials...I would not have given two cents to see most of them but I could watch a whole hour if they were all ones involving the Clydesdales.  The first one, Brotherhood was in 1st place this year--I may have shown it before but I enjoy it every time I see it.

And I just have to show this one, too.

  1. Wow, what a post!! I have never seen so many birds in one place, not even close. You captured some amazing photos! Your quilt is equally amazing, I want it! Will you consider selling it when it's done? It's seriously going to be the prettiest quilt ever. The commercials you ended with had me in tears, couldn't get any sweeter or more heartwarming.

  2. That is a lot of birds! The rice fields near me in California would get like that with swans and swallows. Your quilting looks great. Don't you hate that practice part? Alas it does help.

  4. Your photos are beautiful! That quilting is fantastic too! You must have a longarm machine? I do my quilting on my sewing machine but it is slow going. You know, the Clydesdales commercials are always my favorite ones too. Most of them really touch your heart.

  5. I adore your quilt square with the house! You should make an entire quilt with different houses! This will be the first year that Bud will not have any Superbowl ads. Instead, they will donate the money to help with the pandemic. wow that is a lot of birds! And in the dead of winter, too!

  15. That's a lot of birds you saw there. That's amazing. The quilting is lovely. I've never seen a Clydesdale ad that didn't make me tear up, and these two are no exceptions. It's the only ad I ever look for. Thanks for sharing.

  17. Your quilt looks perfect to me. I like how colourful it is.
There were an amazing number of geese and even swans in your pics. Some winters we get swans but not nearly every year.

  26. Holy cow that is a LOT of birds. What are the strip pits?

When we lived in Orlando, we were near Canaveral National Seashore. We saw a lot of migratory birds, but never like that. WOW!

Your quilting is beautiful. If there are any mistakes in there, I certainly can't see them.

  27. Now there are a massive lot of birds. What fun to see them all. Glad you did.
Your quilting is so beautiful. My Mother quilted too but not me----I just wanted to be outside. Well we all learned how to sew at our Mother's knee but it just was not my thing. I have made a jillion cowboy shirts though and when the girls were little I made dresses and such. I still have my sewing machine but it is probably covered in dust somewhere---LOL

  28. Years ago my father took me to see the Clydesdales in person when they were touring through our town. They were HUGE, beautiful, well-behaved animals, and I have never forgotten them.
